Amazon is adding a new charge for third-party sellers who ship their own products instead of paying for the company’s fulfillment services.
According to a notice sent to merchants last week, Seller Fulfilled Prime (SFP) program members will pay the company a 2% fee on each product sold. This is in addition to the 8% to 15% referral fee already charged by the eCommerce giant on each sale. The new fee goes into effect October 1.
“We’re updating our requirements for Seller Fulfilled Prime to ensure that it provides customers a great and consistent Prime experience,” Amazon stated in the notice to sellers.
SFP launched in 2015 but suspended sign-ups in 2019. Amazon just reopened sign-ups for the invite-only program in June. Members of SFP ship their own packages but are able to include the Prime Badge on their listings.
