Shopify Technologies Inc has announced a new subscription service aimed at snagging big brands. On Tuesday the company released details of Commerce Components, a service that will allow enterprise brands to select services and tools from Shopify's robust retail infrastructure and integrate them with their online platform.
According to the company's press release, this means these big-name brands will have "access to Shopify’s foundational, high-performing components that just work—like our checkout, which converts 72% better than a typical checkout, and 91% better on mobile—plus flexible APIs to build dynamic customer experiences that integrate seamlessly with a retailer’s preferred back office services."
BOLD President Allan Peretz noted this is a smart move for Shopify.
“Shopify’s already established two decades of leadership within the DTC space. They've built best-in-class technology for online retailers," said Peretz. "While they've traditionally served smaller businesses looking for end-to-end solutions, it’s natural that they’d push up into enterprise retail. ”
The new Commerce Components has already secured its first major retailer. As part of this week's announcement, Shopify touted Mattel has committed to bringing its entire portfolio of brands to the subscription service.
Peretz expects more household name brands to follow because the Shopify offering allows for speed and flexibility to build retailer services that are often slowed when attempting to create proprietary solutions.
"Shopify is providing widgets to these companies so they don’t have to reinvent the wheel for themselves. It's a smart expansion because there’s money to be made with companies who favor more custom in-house solutions."
